
Pettway, Wright named Students Of The Month for February
The SCHSL is pleased to announce the February 2026 Student-Athletes of the Month. Carolina Pettway of Westwood High School has been named the Girl’s Student-Athlete of the Month and Karson Wright of Emerald High School as the Boy’s Student-Athlete of the Month.

Carolina Pettway from Westwood high school is the secretary for South Carolina High School League Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Carolina is an exceptional student-athlete who consistently demonstrates leadership, academic excellence, and service to others.
With an impressive 5.017 GPA, Carolina has been a key member of the Westwood High School Softball Team since the 7th grade. As team captain, she is known for her strong leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Beyond her school team, she also shines as a leader on her Thunderhawks travel softball team, which recently delivered a tractor trailer full of supplies to families impacted by Hurricane Helene—a testament to her compassion and community spirit.
Carolina’s involvement extends far beyond athletics. She serves as President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and is an active member of the Westwood Athletic Trainers Program, supporting her peers and promoting wellness across campus. Her ability to balance rigorous academics, athletic excellence, and community service reflects her maturity, dedication, and integrity.

Karson Wright is a shining example of leadership, dedication, and excellence at Emerald High School. A member of both the Beta Club and the National Honor Society, Karson maintains a strong academic record while embodying the values of service, integrity, and perseverance that define the Emerald Viking spirit. Recognized as a Junior Scholar, he demonstrates an unwavering commitment to learning and self-improvement both in and out of the classroom.
Karson’s leadership is evident through his recognition with the Leadership Award for Emerald High School and his extensive involvement in the LEAD Program, where he has devoted many hours to developing his leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. His impact extends far beyond the school walls—Karson volunteers with Next Level Fitness, a local nonprofit organization, dedicating his time to community service and youth athletic training. Through this work, he mentors and motivates young athletes, helping them build confidence, discipline, and a love for sports.
A multi-sport athlete, Karson competes in both football and track, where he exemplifies commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Balancing athletics, academics, and service, he leads by example—showing that hard work and character are the foundation of success.
Karson Wright’s influence on his school and community is profound. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or through volunteer service, he represents what it means to be a true student-athlete and leader.
