Job Summary:
Saluda High School is seeking a passionate and experienced leader to serve as the Head Football Coach. This individual will be responsible for guiding one of South Carolina’s rising football programs, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will develop student-athletes both on and off the field, instilling values that extend beyond the game. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of player development, game planning, and program management. The Head Coach will also play a vital role in strengthening relationships with players, parents, staff, and the broader community to ensure a supportive and competitive football environment.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and articulate a clear vision and goals for the football program that align with Saluda High School’s mission and values.
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs to develop athletes’ skills, conditioning, and football IQ.
- Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic performance, ensuring eligibility and promoting academic excellence.
- Analyze opponents and develop effective game strategies to achieve competitive success.
- Serve as a role model by promoting teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and accountability.
- Recruit, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches to build a cohesive and dynamic coaching staff.
- Build strong relationships with parents, alumni, and community members to foster program support and engagement.
- Identify and cultivate talent within the school and community to maintain a competitive roster.
- Create a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes character development, leadership, and mutual respect.
- Oversee all aspects of game preparation, including practice planning, film review, and in-game decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with all school, district, and SCHSL rules and regulations.
- Implement and enforce player safety protocols, including injury prevention and concussion management in collaboration with athletic trainers.
- Instill leadership qualities in student-athletes, helping them grow as individuals and future community leaders.
- Plan for the program’s long-term success by developing feeder programs and strengthening the pipeline from youth football through junior varsity.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of varsity coaching experience required; Head Coach or Coordinator experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Valid South Carolina Educator’s Credential or equivalent preferred.
