First Ever In-Person Middle School Leadership Summit
The SCHSL Middle School Leadership Summit hosted by the SCHSL Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) was a tremendous success!
One of SAAC’s major initiatives for the 2024–2025 school year is to inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow—and this event did just that. Led by SAAC President Kelly Gristwood, a senior at Sumter High School, the council coordinated a dynamic half-day summit for middle school student-athletes from across the state.
The summit featured six interactive stations focused on leadership development, overcoming adversity, and implementing community service initiatives within schools. Each middle school student-athlete in attendance was hand-selected by their school based on demonstrated leadership and outstanding sportsmanship.
It was truly an outstanding and impactful day for everyone involved. A huge shoutout to all the high schools and SAAC members who helped make this possible—and to the following middle schools for their participation:
- St. Andrews Middle School
- Irmo Middle School
- Northside Middle School
- E.L. Wright Middle School
