Job Summary

The Head Football Coach at Gaffney High School will serve as the visionary leader for one of South Carolina’s most prestigious football programs. This role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach will design and implement effective training programs, game strategies, and player development initiatives to maintain Gaffney High School’s legacy of competitive success for a program that has won 18 State Championships. Building strong relationships with players, parents, staff, and the community will be essential to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of coaching success, leadership ability, and a commitment to academic achievement among student-athletes. This position demands effective communication skills, strategic decision-making, and the ability to inspire athletes to reach their full potential. Additionally, the Head Coach will be responsible for managing assistant coaches, maintaining program budgets, and ensuring compliance with district and SCHSL athletic regulations, and overseeing all sub levels of the football program.  As a cornerstone of school and community pride, the Head Coach will embody Gaffney’s tradition of excellence and dedication to cultivating future leaders.

Essential Functions

Below is a detailed outline of the essential functions required to excel in this position and drive the continued success of the football program.

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision and goals for the football program that align with the school’s mission and values.
  • Design and implement effective training programs to develop athletes’ skills, strength, conditioning, and game knowledge.
  • Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic performance, ensuring eligibility and promoting success in the classroom.
  • Analyze opponents and develop winning game plans and strategies to achieve competitive success.
  • Serve as a role model by promoting teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches to build a cohesive and effective coaching team.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, alumni, and community members to foster support and engagement for the program.
  • Identify and nurture talent within the school and community to maintain a competitive roster.
  • Create a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes character development, leadership, and mutual respect.
  • Oversee all aspects of game preparation, including practice planning, film review, and in-game decision-making.
  • Ensure the program adheres to all school, district, and SCHSL rules and regulations.
  • Implement and enforce protocols for player safety, including injury prevention and concussion management working closely with athletic trainers.
  • Instill leadership qualities in athletes, helping them grow as individuals and future leaders in their communities.
  • Plan for the program’s future success by investing in and building feeder programs and creating a pipeline of talent from little league through junior varsity.

Qualifications:  


1.  At least 5 years of varsity coaching experience required – Head Coach/Coordinator experience preferred
2.  Bachelor’s Degree

3.  Valid South Carolina Educator’s Credential or equivalent  

Salary Scale:  Established by the Board of Trustees

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Contract – 12 monthsDeadline – January 3rd, 2025
